My name is Shawn Nygaard. I call my work “Imagine Astrology,” because to me imagination is one of the most important ingredients when working with astrology, or any symbolic, mythological, psychological, or archetypal system directly related to the soul. I also believe imagination is one of the essential pieces for maneuvering through rapidly-changing life in the 21st century. Rather than imagination being something “made up,” the world around us and everything in it is ‘made up’ of images that occur first in imagination. Imagination comes first.
This blog includes my musings and writings about astrology, archetypes, mythology, symbolism, mystery, seeing in the dark, chasing cars, searching, re-searching, wandering and wondering. I love seeing the world, events and people symbolically rather than just literally. To that end I am an astrologer, and I am also a certified archetypal consultant, having graduated from the “Sacred Contracts” program taught by Caroline Myss at her CMED Institute in Chicago. In my work I combine astrology and archetypes. My background includes a degree in music production, and I am currently studying at the University of Minnesota, finishing a B.A. in English, with a focus on British Literature and the Romantic poets.
I do readings via phone or Skype. Or, if you live in the Twin Cities metro area (Minneapolis/St. Paul), I do in-person readings as well as teach classes. To schedule a reading or if you have any questions, please contact me at the email address below.
Readings are $130 for 1 hour.
This blog is called “the night ride” in reference to a beautiful and haunting song by Loreena McKennitt called “Night Right Across the Caucasus.”
“In the velvet of the darkness
by the silhouette of silent trees
they are watching, they are waiting
they are witnessing life’s mysteries.”

Hi Shawn, I just listened to your interview with Jim Curtan about architypes and am hoping that you also do email reports/readings for those of us in California. I so could use some help with this “changing of architype” thing you/he were talking about. I landed myself into a seemingly “so out of character” architypal situation 4 years ago and it’s been driving me crazy. I would love to connect with you personally, by phone, email, whatever. I’m not finding a way to connect with you through 12 Rad/Listen.
Hi Sandy – Thanks for listening! You can contact me at the email address above these comments. It’s written out in a way that avoids spam, but you’ll see it there.
Shawn
In your announcement for your upcoming webinar on April 2 you mentioned that Venus and the Sun will be within a degree of each other. I won’t be able to observe the webinar, but could you mention here just how significant you believe the “combust” aspect to be? Thanks
Hi Cathy – I don’t pay as much attention to the faster-transiting ‘inner’ planets, but right now the relatively close conjunction between four planets in Aries — Uranus, the Sun, Mars and Venus is clearly having a presence in today’s initial Supreme Court proceedings on same-sex marriage. With Aries as the Pioneer, and Uranus as a planet of innovation, along with Venus so close to the Sun… The light is shining on the potential for this innovation in relationships to burst through in a new, profound and powerful way. It’s got a lot of martial energy behind it to push it through.
Thank you for that observation. Wow, those planets are close together in Aries, aren’t they, and three of them very energetic and forceful planets. Nothing in that conjunction to “dampen” the fire. What about a child born today? Would their Venus energy be “combusted” or overwhelmed? Would they have a very difficult time developing a give and take relationship, especially once the moon enters Scorpio?
